Museum of Science

On Saturday, August 15 Dan, his sister Natalie, and I went to the Museum of Science in Boston. We left at 6:30 am, to take a 6:53 train in. We were scheduled for a members-only scavenger hunt at 9, and this was the only train we could take to get in on time! So we got to the Museum around 8:15, and waited til 9. The scavenger hunt was pretty fun and challenging enough, even though we were all adults! They gave you an hour to basically run around the Museum and find random things! We didn't win, but we got a good portion of the 20 items! After the scavenger hunt we were free to roam around! Natalie and I went to the Butterfly Garden, which was awesome! I had three butterflies land on me, which was amazing! I got some great shots of pretty butterflies! Natalie liked it too. After, her and I went to one of my favorite rooms, the room that has the magnetic boards and the colored ball chains you can use to make pictures. We spent a lot of time there! Luckily, she liked that as much as I did! We must have spent an hour in that room! Dan went to the lightning show, he was happy because we had had to leave when we had gone previously! We also went to see 3-D Planet You, about microorganisms that live on your body. It was pretty interesting! I think we went just about everywhere. We spent a lot of time in the Science In The Park exhibit, and I had a lot of fun, I hadn't been in that exhibit and played in awhile! We went to the Black Hole Exhibit, and the Critter Cam(they are temporary exhibits) and we saw the Tamarin Monkeys, and next door there was a baby chick just about hatching, so we watched the chick until it hatched. That was really awesome!
After the Museum, we hopped the subway to McGreevy's Bar. Dan went in and ate the Beckett Burger, a 1.9 lb burger with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and pickle. It was the size of a large pizza! Natalie couldn't go in because she wasn't 21, so I stayed with her, we ended up at the Prudential Center, and we had food court.(I love their Bourbon chicken!) We went and got Dan after he was done, and we walked around Pru and Copley (everything was closed, but it was still nice to window shop!) We hopped the 11:15 train back home. It was a long day, but a fun day! (Pictures are posted on my Photobucket)

Cooperstown-Baseball Hall Of Fame

Dan and I left early-like 6 am-Sunday morning and got on the Conway bus that was bringing us on the almost 5 hour drive to Cooperstown, NY, where we were going to check out the National Baseball Hall Of Fame! We arrived at 11am, cutting an hour off our travel time. The driver went and got our tickets, and we were free to roam the quaint town of Cooperstown, as long as we were back on the bus by 5pm.

It was amazing! Everything I had expected and more! And the best part is they let us take pictures of everything! (Unlike when they had the exhibit in Boston! We weren't allowed to take pictures when it was here!)

They chronicled everything from the 1800's-present day. They had: Women's Baseball, Black Baseball, Latino Baseball, Baseball History, Artifacts and Items used in Baseball, World Series Trophies, Hall Of Fame Inductees, and much more. My favorites items were of course anything relating to the Red Sox(Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkillis, Jon Lester, Jason Varitek, Daisuke Matsuzaka, and Curt Schilling were amongst the featured) and the case of World Series Rings and Pins. I also liked the souvenir room, and the Baseball Theatre, which was modeled after old Comiskey Park. Of course there was an awful lot of Yankee stuff, which was to be expected, but I bypassed all that! :)

After we were done with the museum, (around 330 pm) we went looking in search of food. We found the Cooperstown Diner, which I had heard of online, and it had had great reviews. We stopped in the (tiny--I think it had 5 tables and counter service) Diner. We were not disappointed! I had their burger--HUGE--with lettuce and tomatoes and cheese just melting off it with a side of tater tots. Dan had their "Mohican" which was grilled cheese and bacon with 2 sides--tater tots and macaroni salad. He also liked his meal. We drank water, and our bill came to $21, including tip. That's not bad! After dinner we went browsing in the store across the street, which was set up like a theatre with a marquee! (It may have been an actual theatre at one point, I am guessing!) We had fun browsing in there. They had an equal amount of Red Sox and Yankee stuff in there, so I was pleased! One thing they had was a GIANT Curt Schilling Bobble head with a World Series Trophy! That was going for $795.00! That is crazy! After that we were hanging out on a bench(it was almost time for the bus) and we saw a guy walk by fully dressed like a baseball player! I was like wow, some people take Cooperstown very seriously! I couldn't resist, I took a picture of him! :) On our way back to the bus we passed the Doubleday ball field, and the Baseball Wax Museum. (I wish we had seen it earlier! We definately had time to check it out!) Dan posed with a Wax George Costanza(yes, that George Costanza from Seinfeld!) and our day in Cooperstown was over. We arrived back at 1030(after getting stuck in traffic and stopping at McDonald's.) Very fun day! I recommend this place for anyone who is a baseball fan! :)

Boston Pops/WWE Aug 2 and 3, 2009

Last weekend was busy! I was down the Cape with Ma Saturday-Sunday so we could see the Boston Pops' Annual Pops by The Sea concert in Hyannis Green. It was excellent as always! Keith Lockhart was conducting, with Angie Dickinson as a Guest Conductor. (Anyone have any idea who Angie Dickinson is?! I know I had no idea! Apparently she was some chick cop on a tv show that was on before I was born! So she wasn't really a guest conductor I was excited to see!) They did some songs off their Red Sox Album("Star Spangled Banner", "National Baseball Theme", "Sweet Caroline", "Casey At The Bat", and "The Theme From The Natural"...all excellent, but I wish they had done "Shipping Up To Boston"!!!) Angie conducted "Strike Up The Band". Keith decided they would play straight through, because the weather was looking ominous. They played a Richard Rodgers Tribute, and played songs from I Married An Angel, King and I, and Carousel. At the end, they did a sing-a-long medley of song favorites from movies with songs like "Singing In The Rain", "Memories", "As Time Goes By", and "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." They closed with "Stars and Stripes Forever." It was a great concert, and the rain managed to hold out! (Miraculously!)

After the Pops, I met Dan at the Melody Tent in Hyannis, to see WWE's Smackdown/ECW Summerslam Tour. We had great seats! (The Melody Tent is not huge, we were row 14 and we could see perfectly! I didn't know as many of the wrestlers because I don't watch Smackdown or ECW, just RAW. But the ones I did know were: Jimmy Wang Yang, John Morrison, Christian, William Regal, CM Punk, Kane, Great Khali, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat. Decent Superstars! Dan knew everyone, of course. I was just excited to see it live! Afterwards we stood by as the Superstars left, and we got a few pics of them in their cars. It made for a long but exciting day!

Monday after work we drove straight to Mohegan Sun to see RAW live. That was more exciting for me, as I knew most, if not all, of the wrestlers! We ate quickly at Big Bubba's BBQ before the event. The BBQ chicken was great, but we both didn't care for the ribs. They had good mac n cheese, decent fries, and AMAZING cheese grits! I was disappointed I didn't order the cheese grits!(But I was glad he did! I was able to sample!) I didn't like the cornbread, I don't like my cornbread mixed with herbs. He ate my piece too. The fresh squeezed lemonade was excellent.
We headed into Raw, and wouldn't you know we ended up in the LAST ROW directly facing the RAW entrance! I had no idea we were so high! We got there early enough to see the Superstars matches. I got to see Santino, so I was happy! Jeremy Piven and Dr Ken were the Guest Hosts, and they were funny. I won't list the results, anyone can find that online. But I got to see Triple H, John Cena, Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne, Big Show, Hornswoggle, Mark Henry, Jericho, Randy Orton and Legacy, Chavo Guerrero, Carlito, Primo, Jack Swagger, Mickie James, Gail Kim, Beth Phoenix, Jillian. I got decent pictures from where I was sitting! After, there was a dark tag team match with HHH and Cena vs Orton and Big Show. That was awesome! HHH and Cena won :) We were walking around the casino after, and we saw Alicia Fox and Evan Bourne! Dan got their autographs and pictures with them, which was cool! It was another long, but fun night!
